The Deer Island Chamber of Commerce is a community partner that facilitated and coordinated with the New Brunswick International Sculpture Symposium Inc. to bring a 9-foot granite sculpture to Deer Island. We are thrilled to have this permanent piece of public art placed at the Deer Island ferry landing to welcome visitors and islanders. It is our hope it will become a landmark symbol for Deer Island and Deer Island's continued economic and social presence in Southern New Brunswick. The sculpture was created at the Symposium in Saint John by Jim Boyd and was completed in September 2022.
The Beginning...
The Unveiling...
We are thrilled to have this permanent piece of public art placed at the Deer Island ferry landing to welcome visitors and islanders to "the island". It is our hope that it will become a landmark symbol for Deer Island and Deer Island's continued economic and social presence in Southern New Brunswick.
The placement of the sculpture on Deer Island adds Deer Island to the International Sculpture Trail, traveling along the coast from Bucksport, Maine to St. Martins, New Brunswick. Combined, the two trails make up a unique international art exhibition of seventy-two large scale granite works of contemporary art by world renowned artists.
The sculpture at Butlers Point would not have happened without the support of Island Donors, friends of the Island Donors, corporate sponsors who have donated equipment and labour and the cooperation and encouragement from Sculpture Saint John, Charlotte County Regional Tourism Association, NB Dept. of Transport and Infrastructure, NB Dept. of Tourism, our MLA Andrea Anderson Mason, and members of the Deer Island Chamber of Commerce. Cooks Aquaculture deserves recognition as a major sponsor of this special community project.
